Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding Gives Your Baby A Healthy Start

Henry Community Health is a designate“Baby-Friendly®” Hospital by Baby-Friendly USA. When you breastfeed, you give your baby a healthy start that lasts a lifetime. Breastmilk is the perfect food for your baby. As an infant grows, breast milk changes to meet the infant’s nutritional needs. You and your baby also can enjoy the emotional benefits of the very special and close relationship formed through breastfeeding.

We Understand Breastfeeding Isn’t For Everyone

Even though we think breastfeeding is important, we understand breastfeeding isn’t for everyone. If you choose to bottle feed, we are ready to help so you too can give your baby a healthy start and develop a special and close relationship.

Lactation Consultant

While you are in the hospital we offer the assistance of a lactation consultant to help you be successful.

Breastfeeding Class

If you are considering or have already decided to breastfeed, this class provides helpful information. Taught by a Certified Lactation Counselor, the class answers your questions and concerns about breastfeeding. We encourage all mothers-to-be to attend this class as it will help you feel confident that you made the best decision about feeding for you and your baby. The class is free and is one evening from 6 pm to 8:30 pm. While you can attend at any time it is recommended between 34-38 weeks. Call 599.3193. for more information.

Assistance After Delivery and Your Return Home

Help in breastfeeding is provided by a certified lactation specialist after delivery and for outpatient visits after mothers return home. We also follow-up with you by telephone after you go home to see what questions you have, how you and your baby are doing and what help you might need from us.

Feeding Support Group For Breastfed and Bottlefed Babies

Whether you are breastfeeding or bottle feeding, you and your baby always are welcome at any of these support groups. Whether you come to every event or occasionally they are here to help support you in feeding your new baby. And if you want, we can weigh your baby for you each time.  If you are pregnant and looking for more information about infant feeding, please join us at any time.
